A New Branch of Sea World Opens Up

So today I went for a scan cos it seems I have developed oedema (or for those of you that like to know the proper terms, polyhydramnios) on my tum, which means to say I've got too much fluid in my bump. Before I go on I have to point out that the midwife said it's not harmful, just flippin uncomfortable as it's stretching my skin and has caused a bump of fliud at the bottom of the bump that is sore as heck. (That said, I Googled it and the Wiki entry did not bring much of a smile to my face...)

Anyway, Monty is estimated to be measuring at 39-40 weeks (he's 37 and one day) and his weight is thought to be around 8.5lbs (plus or minus one lb either way), so he could be 7.5-9.5lb - jeepers!

The normal range for amniotic fluid is 5-20, according to the scan man, but my amniotic fluid measurement was 26. I am officially a pool. I may need fencing off for safety.

So you see, I have the water and the whale - so I am setting myself up as Auckland's new Sea World. Might as well make a buck or two out things, eh?

Monty's Theme Tune

I was chatting with some other preggy ladies online and one of them has a baby who lies in her tum with his bum stuck out - causing a big lump in her tummy - so she decided baby's theme tune should be Sir Mixalot's 'I like big butts' - hehehe

This got me to thinking what Monty's theme tune should be. The most noticeable thing about Monty is that he wriggles and jumps around all the time ... and then it hit me! What more appropriate theme tune could there possibly be than this

Go Monty!!!

Happy New Year

Here's me and the Monty Bump at 33 weeks, on 2nd January 2009.

The bump just keeps getting bigger and bigger, and I do wonder how far it can go before I actually pop!

And strangely enough I've actually lost weight over the past couple of weeks, so who knows how that works... maybe Monty's eating me! If he is, I wonder if he'd mind taking a bit off the thighs...

Anyway, only 7 weeks to go, assuming he comes on time (which only 5% of babies do).

I think he's going to come a little bit early, say 39 weeks... anyone else want to take a guess at when he'll make his appearance?

Dan's been busy with the birthing pool - blowing it up and filling it, then taking temperature readings every hour or so to see how well it holds its temperature, so he can work out whether the water tank will heat back up in time to provide adequate top ups to keep me nice and warm.

He's very organised - I'd not even thought of most of that!!!

We've also washed most of Monty's clothes and bedding so they are ready for action. I only just found out you have to wash them before they're worn ... who knew? I'd have put him in them straight from the shop!

The only thing now is to decide which of his fabulous wee outfits to put him in when he's born. It's no easy choice, especially since he's had so many lovely things from his aunties and uncles (real and adopted) in the UK and NZ.

We worked out that he has now got over 70 outfits age 0-3 months! He could host the Oscars with a wardrobe like that!

I suppose, for his first outfit, we'd best make a few choices in different sizes, since he could be a little thing needing 0000 (newborn) size or a whopper needing 0-3 months... who knows?

I guess it'll not be that long until we find out ...

... as long as his head's not too big I don't mind! Jeepers!
